Alfa To Race 8C Competizione in '08
MILAN, Italy — Alfa Romeo executive Antonio Baravalle confirmed that the company, a subsidiary of the Fiat group, will prepare its new 8C Competizione for endurance racing at Le Mans, Daytona and the Nürburgring in 2008.
According to European press reports, the car will compete against Ferrari and Porsche in GT2 after being homologated by Italian chassis constructor Dallara and the Maserati Corse racing team, with assistance from Pirelli.
The racing version of the 8C reportedly will be developed in 2007 at the Maserati facility in Modena, where MC12 development is also based. According to Italiaspeed.com, "The existing Maserati Corse team will turn its attention to the 8C Competizione once the ongoing MC12 activities are wrapped up at the end of next year."
The original Alfa 8C swept Le Mans four consecutive years, from 1931-1934.
