Steeda Rolls Out 600-Plus-HP Ford Shelby GT500
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — If you can't keep all of the special-edition Mustangs straight, we can relate. Hot on the heels of the "Super Snake" packages for the 2007 and 2008 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 coupes comes the Steeda GT500, which promises 600-plus horsepower and uncompromised handling.
The "Super Snake" upgrades, an effort by Shelby Automobiles and Ford Racing, feature kits that jack up the output of the 5.4-liter V8 to 600 hp while retaining the factory engine warranty, and a non-warranty version that makes 725 horses. Steeda matches the base "Super Snake" kit with engine modifications that boost output to more than 600 hp.
Perhaps the most compelling part of the Steeda package is a new and patented Steeda coil-over suspension system, which the tuner said is "derived from over one year of research and development" and "greatly enhances aggressive performance driving without detracting from ride quality."
The Steeda package is priced at $13,995. At the very least, it will provide an interesting price comparison to the "Super Snake" kits. Ford has not yet released volume or pricing information on those kits.
