Skoda Roomster Scout Debuts
MLADA BOLESLAV, Czech Republic — Skoda, the Czech affiliate of the Volkswagen Group, continues to pursue its own course in design and product development.
Frequently accused of simply mimicking many of the parent's vehicles, Skoda finally is beginning to display some fresh thinking, particularly with its Roomster series.
The latest addition to this Czech soft-roader is the front-wheel-drive Roomster Scout, which is a bit larger than the basic model, with some unique styling elements. It follows on the heels of the Octavia Scout sedan that was launched in September at the Paris show.
The Roomster Scout is making its world debut at the Essen Motor Show and goes on sale next March in Europe. The Roomster adds sporty 16-inch wheels and tires, as well as other exterior and interior trim modifications intended to give it more of a sporting look.
A choice of gas and diesel engines is available. The top power plant is a DOHC 1.6-liter gasoline four-cylinder that makes 103 horsepower and can be mated to either a five-speed manual or a six-speed Tiptronic transmission
