Saab Aero X Snags Top Design Prize
LONDON — The Saab Aero X concept has been named Concept Car of the Year by Autocar magazine here.
"The Aero X takes familiar Saab design cues and shows how they can be incorporated into modern architecture and plausibly extended even to a 400-horsepower supercoupe," said Autocar editor Chas Hallett.
The Saab Aero X made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. The Autocar prize pointed out the concept's dynamic stance and the designers' references to Saab's aircraft heritage. The concept is powered by a 400-hp turbocharged V6 BioPower engine that can run entirely on pure E100 bioethanol. In a statement on Wednesday, GM said: "As with the styling, the powertrain is a strong hint at what lies in the future for Saab."
This is the second year in a row that GM's Europe design team has won this award. Last year, the Opel Antara GTC was named Concept of the Year.
