Mazda 2 Launched in China
Mazda Motor said its redesigned Mazda 2, recently unveiled in Europe and Japan, will be produced in China by the Chang'an Ford Mazda joint venture.
The partners plan to begin production by the end of 2007. The Nanjing facility will have an initial capacity of 160,000 units a year, under the leadership of Mazda's production engineering department. Eventually, it may build other variants of the Mazda 2, including the next-generation Ford Fiesta.
The Mazda 2 made its world debut in March at the Geneva Motor Show. It is the first model to be built on Ford's global B2 platform, which will underpin several other vehicles in the Ford brand portfolio.
