Lab Cab'n, London: New Taxi Rocks Olde English Streets
LONDON — London Taxis International — better known as LTI Vehicles — has been making taxicabs for nearly six decades, including the ubiquitous "Black Taxi" that has been seen on British streets since the late 1950s.
LTI has just released the TX4, an update of the TXII model that it introduced in 2002. While retaining the familiar shape of its predecessor, the TX4 has a host of improvements, including a cleaner, more efficient 2.5-liter turbodiesel, new transmissions, revised suspension, antilock brakes, upgraded interiors and a restyled exterior.
Prices start at a healthy $50,700, including VAT, but LTI notes that the typical TX taxi has a lifespan of 10 years or more.
