4-Door Fun: Honda expands Si lineup with Civic sedan for 2007
Honda’s high-performance Civic Si coupe gets a sibling for the 2007 model year, a Civic Si sedan.
The Si sedan was shown in concept form on Wednesday at the Chicago Auto Show. It is the first time a Civic sedan has worn the Si badge.
The Si sedan gets the same powertrain as the coupe – a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine rated at 197 horsepower. The engine is mounted to a six-speed manual transmission. The front-drive powertrain is also equipped with a limited-slip differential to distribute the torque equally.
The 2006 Civic Si coupe went on sale in mid December, and the model is sold out through May, said John Mendel, senior vice president for American Honda Motor Co.
Mendel said Honda expects the Si sedan to appeal to enthusiasts who are slightly older than Si coupe buyers. He would not say how many Si sedans Honda plans to build, or where it will be produced.
The concept was equipped with 18-inch wheels and Brembo brakes with drill brake rotors. Those features won’t be on the production Si sedan, but a version of the concept’s decklid-mounted wing will be standard.
