Skullduggery at Skoda as Leaker of Photos Is Arrested
PRAGUE, Czech Republic — A contract worker has been arrested for leaking photos of the new Skoda Superb to a tabloid publication here. The photos of the forthcoming second-generation Superb, the Czech automaker's flagship model, made the rounds of Web sites after the leak.
Skoda asked the police to help investigate the case, and the Prague Daily Monitor newspaper has reported that the culprit has been found and arrested.
Czech tabloid Blesk published the first undisguised pictures of the car — which isn't scheduled for unveiling until summer — two weeks ago. Quickly the pictures appeared all over the world.
Skoda has a history of remaining tight-lipped on its future plans, so its willingness to prosecute is not surprising. The Daily Monitor reports the arrested party is a 27-year-old "external employee" who was hired by the Czech automaker to work on the new model. Leaking the images to Blesk violated the nondisclosure clause of his employment contract, and he faces up to two years in prison.
