2008 Cadillac STS
DETROIT — Cadillac has mildly face-lifted the STS sedan for model-year 2008, adding a number of styling and technical enhancements. Among them is the addition of a more powerful V6 engine. The STS will be on display at the New York auto show next week.
The 2008 STS, which goes on sale in midsummer, gets General Motors' first direct-injection V6, a 3.6-liter unit rated at 298 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque. The new engine, which packs considerably more wallop than the current 3.6-liter V6, also gets a six-speed automatic transmission for the first time.
Visually, the '08 STS doesn't look much different. A revised front fascia picks up some of the styling cues from the 2008 CTS, as well as the side air extractors from the '07 Escalade. Additional details include a body-color rear fascia, polished aluminum exhaust tips and chrome-plated door handles. Cadillac says the exterior dimensions on the STS have been slightly increased.
The '08 STS gets several new technologies, including optional lane-departure and blind-spot warning systems. Head-up display is offered for the first time on the V6 model.
A new performance handling package, available on all but V6 all-wheel-drive models, bundles 18-inch chrome-plated alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport tires and upgraded Brembo disc brakes. V8 models get an improved stability-control system with enhanced variable-rate steering.
