Mitsubishi Announces Pricing on 2008 Lancer
CYPRESS, Calif. — Mitsubishi is aiming for a value-pricing strategy with its redesigned 2008 Lancer, announcing that the sedan will start at $14,615 for the base DE model, including a $625 destination charge. That base price is $589 less than the outgoing base Lancer ES model.
The Japanese automaker said the midrange 2008 Lancer ES will start at $16,615, including destination. The top-of-the-line 2008 Lancer GTS starts at $18,115, including shipping.
All Lancer models come with a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 152 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 146 pound-feet of torque at 4,250 rpm. California gets a PZEV-certified Lancer that delivers 143 hp at 6,000 rpm and 143 lb-ft of torque at 4,250 rpm. The new engine gets a boost of 32 hp over the previous inline-4's 120 hp. The new 2.0-liter engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is also available on all three trim levels. The CVT adds $900 to the price of the base DE model.
Options on the 2008 Lancer include a $2,000 Navigation and Technology package and a $1,500 Sun and Sound package that bundles a 650-watt Rockford Fosgate premium sound system with Sirius Satellite Radio and a six-disc CD in-dash head unit. Another $1,100 option package includes air-conditioning, antilock brakes, power door locks and an auto up/down driver's window.
