Skoda's New Fabia To Debut
MLADA BOLESLAV, Czech Republic — Czech carmaker Skoda has released information and pictures of its forthcoming second-generation Fabia, which will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
A sister model to the Volkswagen Polo, the Fabia has become the brand's best-selling model since its debut eight years ago. Its reception has helped Skoda become more confident about its plans for worldwide expansion.
Images of the new model show that Skoda is continuing along the styling path first seen in the Roomster minivan-wagon, which was introduced a year ago. The same front-end treatment has been applied to the Fabia, and the profile reveals careful evolution from the look of its predecessor.
Inside, no radical changes are expected other than more equipment and a bit more room. The dashboard has been reorganized to make it more driver-friendly. Optional equipment includes a six-CD changer, automatic climate control, cornering headlights and steering-wheel-mounted audio controls.
Initially, seven engines will be offered — four gasoline and three diesel — ranging from a basic three-cylinder 1.2-liter that makes 60 horsepower to a 1.9-liter diesel with 103 hp.
The first cars will be delivered in March.
