MG Back in Production
NANJING, China — Nanjing Automobile has begun pilot production of the MG TF roadster, two years after the last cars rolled off the line at the former MG Rover plant in Longbridge, England. Engines and transmissions are being shipped from Nanjing to the U.K. plant for final assembly of right-hand-drive models.
The Chinese automaker, which also has a partnership with Fiat, said it expects to resume full assembly of the TF this spring at Longbridge and will launch additional MG models later this year.
Left-hand-drive versions of the TF are being assembled at the company's plant in Pukou, just outside Nanjing. The cars are being sold initially in China and England, with plans to begin U.S. sales in 2008.
