Ultralimited-Edition Ascari A10 Sports Car to Be Produced in England
— Ascari, a little-known British sports-carmaker, has introduced its new A10. There'll be only 50 produced with a price tag of around $610,000 each.
With Ascari, you don't buy a car, you buy a lifestyle. Klaus Zwaart, owner of the company, has built a racetrack-resort combination in Spain. Originally Zwaart thought he'd offer a time-share-type chance for wanna-be owners: by renting out the track for a period of the year, they'd also be entitled to own an Ascari, in this case the currently produced KZ1. Ultimately Zwaart realized that it'd be a wiser choice to market the cars in more traditional fashion. The company Web site trumpets the slogan: "If we have the courage to pursue our dreams and transform our vision into reality, we invite magic into our lives." For those with not just the courage but the cash to back it up, the company is offering a calendar of race instruction and events to Ascari owners.
The new A10 is a further development of the existing KZ1, with revised styling and a BMW-sourced 5.0-liter V8 engine, pumping out a healthy 600 hp with a six-speed manual as standard. Maximum speed is claimed to be 220 mph.
