2009 Mercedes CL AMG Sport Package
Not only did the 2009 Mercedes S-Class receive the sporty once over, the big-boy 2009 Mercedes CL got the AMG Sport Package too. Again, we hope you didn't actually want all the AMG performance advantages.
As with the 2009 S-Class AMG Sport Package, the 2009 Mercedes CL AMG Sport Package receives a new sporty body kit akin to a nicely tailored, bespoke pin-striped suit. Larger air intakes cut into the newly sculpted front fascia, large exhaust tips poke out of a blackout section in the new rear fascia and a re-sculpted side skirt brings the package together.
Like the S-Class AMG Sport, the CL receives two attractive wheel options, 19- and 20-inch versions with silver painted calipers sitting directly behind. If you're the type of guy who's all show and no go, then this is the ride for you. Pick it up in June along with the S-class. They're both sure to impress the ladies.

2010 Mercedes Benz S-Class
In the 2010 S-Class, Mercedes-Benz has improved the renowned safety level even further with a unique combination of innovative camera and radar-based driver assistance systems. These include Adaptive Highbeam Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and the PRE-SAFE® brake system linked to the proximity regulating radar, which intervenes autonomously before an impending rear-end collision and acts like an invisible crumple zone. Other innovations in the 2010 S-Class include the ATTENTION ASSIST driver drowsiness monitor and Active Body Control with automatic crosswind stabilization.
The new S400 HYBRID is also celebrating its debut. As the first series-production Mercedes-Benz passenger car with hybrid drive, this S-Class model is the world's most economical luxury car with a gasoline engine. Its estimated combined fuel consumption of 29 miles per gallon sets a new worldwide benchmark in this vehicle segment. The new hybrid model combines a low fuel consumption and a high level of environmental compatibility with superior performance: the internal combustion engine and the hybrid module develop a combined output of 295 hp, and a combined maximum torque of 284 lb-ft. (The electric motor contributes 20 hp and 118 lb-ft to the powertrain).
With 270,000 units sold world-wide since its launch, the W 221-series S-Class is the world's most successful luxury sedan, and seamlessly continues the success story of the flagship model in the Mercedes-Benz lineup. Since 1951, when the model 220 began the direct lineage of the S-Class, Mercedes-Benz has delivered around 3.3 million passenger cars from this model series to customers.
The U.S. line-up includes the S400 HYBRID, the 382-hp V8-powered S550 and all-wheel-drive S550 4MATIC as well as the high-performance 518-hp S63 AMG. V12 offerings include the 510-hp S600 and the top-of-the-line 604-hp S65 AMG. The 2010 S-Class will be in U.S. showrooms beginning in August.
An absolutely unique combination of ultra-modern assistance and protection systems is available for the 2010 S-Class. Many of these systems are also available for the new E-Class, which debuts this summer. The new assistance systems turn the models in the E and S-Class into "intelligent" partners for their driver. The car is able to "see", "feel", respond reflexively and act autonomously to prevent accidents or mitigate their effects. Mercedes-Benz also uses cameras in these systems - these are able to look well ahead, monitor the car's surroundings and interpret typically critical situations. One example is the optional Adaptive Highbeam Assist. This system recognizes oncoming or leading vehicles and then controls the headlamps to ensure the best possible beam range without dazzling other drivers on the road.
The Sindelfingen-based engineers have also developed Night View Assist further – Night View Assist PLUS is equipped with a special pedestrian detection function: as soon as the system detects pedestrians ahead of the car, they are highlighted on the display to make it easier for the driver to see them.

Mercedes Benz E Class Coupe spied in Spain
A couple of days ago we showed you a few leaked photos of the new E Class Coupe, Mercedes’ replacement for the current CLK and now we’ve got the first photos showing the car on the street. The vehicle was photographed in Mallorca, Spain during an internal event for employees, by the guys from Motorpasion and it has minimal camouflage; except for the headlights and tail lights, which are covered, the car is completely undisguised.
So, what do you think, will Mercedes be able to compete with the other German luxury coupes, like the 3 Series Coupe or the Audi A5/S5? I think they can, because, like any other Mercedes model, they’ve decided to go for more stylish and less aggressive, which I think will appeal to a lot of customers.

2010 Mercedes Benz E-Class Estate wagon
The next-generation Mercedes Benz E-class has again been spotted in testing but this time the prototype is for the Mercedes Benz E-class‘Estate’ wagon version. The images were taken near the carmaker’s headquarters in Germany and reveal the final shape of the car, with only the finer details being masked by the black camouflage material. These new renderings and spy shots, however, gives us a good indication as to how the final version will look.
We can clearly see the design of the grille and some details on the tail-lights. The next E-Class is expected to debut at next year’s Geneva Motor Show before going on sale later that same year as a 2010 model. The wagon ‘Estate’ variant, meanwhile, should be unveiled at the following Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

2010 Mercedes Benz R-Class facelift
Sales figures for the R-Class haven’t managed to live up to the expectations of the German luxury brand, but Mercedes Benz is determined not to completely write-off its ‘Grand Sport Tourer’ just yet. The R-Class received a mild facelift last year to help turnaround flagging sales, but a second and more extensive update is in fact planned for the 2010 model year as previewed by these latest spy shots of a prototype caught testing in Germany.
The first facelift came less than two years after the vehicle was first shown at 2005’s New York Auto Show, and was implemented mainly to increase the car’s desirability. A cheaper RWD model was added to the lineup as well as a more flexible seven-seater model, but other than that the car remained mostly unchanged.
For the next update Mercedes will give the car a major styling overhaul with a new front-end planned as well as a slightly revised rear and interior. Expected to be launched in the second half of next year, the new R-Class will likely receive the same squared-off treatment as the rest of the Mercedes lineup including angular headlights and a larger more prominent grille.

2011 Mercedes Benz CLS CGI
Perhaps not to be outdone by the news of BMW’s 8 Series this morning, our graphic artist has come out with a first look at Mercedes-Benz’s revised CLS model due here in 2011.
The stunning saloon will be the second of its kind from the iconic brand to be offered with a hybrid powertrain, which will be shared with the forthcoming S400 due for release here mid next year.
The elegant four door coupe will retain much of the current CLS traits sharing existing power plants and underpinnings though with revised sheet metal for a fresher, more flowing appeal than that of the existing model which was first seen here in 2005.
CLS II and S400 Hybrid models will make use of Lithium-Ion batteries to save weight with pre-production testing said to be well underway.

Mercedes Benz SLR 722 GT in action – Video
For those of you who don’t know, the Mercedes Benz SLR 722 GT is a track version of the SLR, powered by a supercharged 5.5 liter AMG V8, which delivers 680 hp and allows the car to achieve some really impressive performance numbers: 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 314 km/h (195 mph).
But there’s a downside to all this, of course. The car, which can only be purchased from RENNtech, has a very impressive pricing also, $1.2 million. You’d say that no one would be crazy enough to pay that much money for a track-only car, but it seems that there were a few rich folks who bought the car, because here’s a video of eight SLR 722 GT’s at an event organised by RENNtech. 2008 Mercedes Benz E Class
The 2008 Mercedes-Benz E-Class features one of the most diverse engine and transmission lineups in the luxury sedan market. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is unique in that it is the only luxury sedan available with a diesel engine. "Being a diesel," reports Edmunds, "it boasts superior fuel mileage and plentiful torque." The Mercedes-Benz 2008 E320 features a 3.2-liter V-6 diesel that produces 210 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. Other engine choices include a 3.5-liter V-6 (E350) that produces 268 hp and 258 pound-feet of torque; a 5.5-liter V-8 (E550) that produces 382 hp and 391 pound-feet; and a massive 6.2-liter V-8 (E63 AMG) that produces 507 hp and 465 pound-feet.
The "manic" Mercedes-Benz 2008 E63 can hit 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds. The E350 does it in the mid-6-second range, the E550 takes 5.2 seconds, and the E320 is no slouch either, taking just 6.8 seconds, all according to Edmunds. It's no wonder Kelley Blue Book claims "the E-Class' engine lineup is one of the most dynamic on the planet." In testing, ConsumerGuide finds the 2008 Mercedes-Benz E-Class offers effortless acceleration and passing power, no matter the engine choice. The E350 is "stately from a stop but gathers speed quickly and has fine passing power"; while the E320 is "similar," it suffers from turbo lag when accelerating from a stop and passing. The E550 is "impressively gutsy from any speed," they conclude.
Buyers of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 or E550 may choose either rear- or all-wheel drive, known as 4Matic. Edmunds reports that "all rear-wheel-drive E-Class models come with a seven-speed automatic, while the 4Matic models feature a five-speed...the automatic offers three modes: Comfort, Sport and Manual." ConsumerGuide says "in all, the transmissions provide smooth, timely shifts."
Fueleconomy.gov ratings for the 2008 Mercedes-Benz E-Class are as follows: 23/32 mpg (E320 diesel); 17/24 mpg (E350 rear-drive), 16/22 mpg (4Matic); 15/22 mpg (E550 rear-drive), 13/19 mpg (4Matic); 12/19 mpg (E63). In their testing of a Mercedes-Benz 2008 E550 4Matic, ConsumerGuide achieves 17.5 mpg. They note "premium-grade gas is required in all non-diesel models."
In the handling department, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is no match for its archrival, the BMW 5-Series. Where the BMW is marketed as the ultimate driving machine and lives up to that, the E-Class is "certainly adequate...but isn't a willing partner like a 5 Series can be," writes Edmunds. They add, "although the Benz E550 is, without question, a track star during acceleration runs, super-athletic moves on a twisty road are not the car's forte."

Mercedes Benz R-Class spied
Mercedes-Benz’s philosophy of making a car suited for nearly every single person on earth has worked to a degree, except for the R-class MPV. But as these pictures prove, Mercedes is apparently planing to give it another try with a new R-class. This prototype was snapped in the U.S. by our photographers today and wears massive camouflage on front and rear.
It is rumoured the car will receive a front-end facelift in a style more we are more accustomed to, one that might resemble the more friendly B-class people mover. Whether or not a facelift will increase sales is still to be seen.
There are currently four variants of the R-class available. The R280 CDI, R320 CDI, R350, R500. The car retails from $80,835 for the entry model and goes all the way to $129,111 for the 5.5-litre V8.

Mercedes Benz CL 65 AMG 40th Anniversary Edition
We're not sure if there are actually any more of these available to buy (only 40 were made total), but this special edition AMG Benz really shines. The Mercedes Benz CL 65 AMG 40th Anniversary Edition ($295,000) offers the usual AMG upgrades — perfected styling and a 6.0-liter V12 Biturbo engine that's good for 612-hp — along with a paint finish that you won't find on any other production model car.
Called Alubeam, the silvery paint is made with pigment particles that measure just 30 to 50 nanometers (much smaller than normal metallic paint), allowing it to coat the surface more evenly and reflect the light more intensively. Basically, it "gleams like liquid metal" and seems to be "stretched over the vehicle body like a metallic skin," as Mercedes says.
