Kia Cee’d Plus spy photos

The European photographers snapped this new Korean car in the Swiss Alps a few days ago but admittedly had no clue as to what the car could actually be. The registration and camouflage clearly said “Hyundai” or “Kia” – but which model?

Not to worry – we found out at last! A former Hyundai designer told us this:
“I’m actually fairly certain that this isn’t the next [Kia] Picanto. It’s hard to tell scale from the pictures, but the car looks to upmarket to be a Picanto. It seems to have a panorama roof plus five-lug wheels that Kia or Hyundai never use on vehicles that small!”

Kia Cee’d Plus-1Kia Cee’d Plus-2In regard to the size I’d say it’s the Hyundai SO of which a concept will be shown at the Paris show and which is a C-segment small MPV for Europe replacing the Matrix. But the camouflage and grille speak for Kia rather than Hyundai, so I reckon it’s the Kia version of the SO. I don’t know anything about it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Kia was developing such a car given the segment’s popularity in Europe.”

We agree and believe the car is going to be a competitor to the Volkswagen Golf), probably using the Ceed name - so for now, we will call it the Cee’d plus.

Kia Ceed Auction in UK

BCA Measham organized an auction on the 1st February that featured a number of Kia Cee'ds. The Kia Cee'd usually is priced around 9,300 pounds outside the UK, but at the auction the top price offered was 10,100 pounds. All the cars put on auction were sold with a £500,000 turnover.

BCA Press Release:
The new Kia Cee'd made an impressive auction debut in a special sale staged at BCA Measham on 1st February.

Kia CeedThe special invitation Live Online sale attracted 30 buyers with a further 15 bidding online and offered the first opportunity to buy the Cee’d at auction.
A total of ten 56-registered Kia Cee’d hatchbacks were featured in a sale that saw 57 vehicles offered and sold from the manufacturer. The 100% sell out success generated a turnover of nearly £500,000, equivalent to 100.25% of CAP Clean.

Across the board the Cee’d models averaged just under £9,300, equivalent to 111% of CAP Clean. Top performers included a 0656 113 LS model that realised 118% of CAP Clean at 13,500 miles, while a 0756 113 LS model at 9,000 miles sold for £10,100 – the highest price for a Cee’d on the day.

Kia’s Used Car Remarketing Manager David McCluskey commented “The Cee’d has consistently gained strong reviews since launching in 2006 and we were expecting a lot of demand for the cars on offer at BCA – it’s safe to say the car exceeded even our own high expectations in this special launch sale. We were also pleased to see plenty of demand for Picanto and Carens, and strong values achieved by Sedona, Sportage and Rio.”
