2007 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Concept

Hyundai's new Concept Genesis Coupe has been unveiled, as Hyundai plans a production Genesis sedan for January's Detroit auto show and a production coupe for April's New York auto show.

The new 2+2 coupe won't be a replacement for the existing front-drive Tiburon coupe, though, Hyundai's VP for product John Krafcik told Los Angeles audiences. Hyundai's front-drive coupe has too loyal a following to abandon, so Hyundai will eventually offer both front- and rear-drive sports coupes as it adds a performance spin to its lineup.

Hyundai is aiming the Coupe at a gap in the market, between the Infiniti G37 and Mitsubishi Eclipse - the high $20,000 range. And while Ford's Mustang would seem to be a natural competitor, Hyundai's Krafcik confirms that the production Coupe won't be getting a V-8 engine. Instead, a turbocharged four will be the base powerplant; an optional 3.8-liter V-6 will churn out more than 300 hp. Both engines will be offered with six-speed manual or automatic transmissions. Hyundai estimates a 0-60 mph time of less than six seconds for the six-cylinder version with a manual transmission.

The production version of the Genesis Coupe goes on sale in the spring of 2009.

Duesenberg Torpedo Coupe

There's nothing that entertains us more than the wild claims made by manufacturers developing new supercars.

The latest lofty proclamation comes from Duesenberg, which claims its new Torpedo Coupe will be capable of 70mpg while using a 300bhp supercharged V12 engine.

Regardless of whether or not Duesenberg can pull off this unlikely feat - and call us cynics, but we're guessing it's unlikely - it's good to see this historic name back in the fray with its two-door coupe.

The Torpedo aims to offer the ultimate in luxury motoring and it should be on sale in the US by August this year, although there's no firm pricing yet.

Nissan Announces Pricing on 2008 Altima Coupe

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Nissan has announced that its 2008 Nissan Altima Coupe will range in price from $21,115 for the base model with a six-speed transmission to $26,015 for a top-of-the-line 3.5 SE Altima coupe with a CVT. The prices include a $625 destination charge.

A technology package that bundles a navigation system with a rearview monitor adds another $2,000 to the bottom line. A premium package for the Altima 2.5 S coupe adds $5,100 and includes alloy rims, a Bluetooth hands-free phone system, an eight-way driver seat, leather seats, a sunroof and an updated Bose system.

Nissan said customers will be able to preorder the 2008 Altima Coupe at dealerships starting Tuesday under a special "reserve your coupe" promotion.

The Altima 2.5 S coupe gets a 2.5-liter inline-4 that generates 175 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. The 3.5 SE models get the 3.5-liter V6 that generates 270 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. The Altima coupe has a 4-inch-shorter wheelbase than its sedan counterpart and a lower profile.
