BMW X1 Lego model crafted for charity

One of the most famous toys in the world is Lego, everyone at some stage in their life has played with it, as a child or as a parent. Lego has made a guest appearance at BMW Welt in Munich. 800 children spent four days to put together a true to scale model of a BMW X1 using 165,000 LEGO bricks. Resulting in a bright yellow BMW X1.

BMW X1 Lego model imageBMW Welt will be donating money to the children’s charity “Die Arche” in Munich. For every Lego block used in the X1 construction they will donate an amount of money. Totaling several thousand Euros to help children from underprivileged families. The model will be on display at BMW Welt until November 25.

Frankfurt Motor Show 2009: BMW X1: the smallest crossover!

2010 BMW X1 - spy video

This 2010 BMW X1 spy video was released by the Bavarian carmaker and shows the new model being tested in the snow. The BMW X1 wears heavy camouflage, but, as seen from the clip, it will be a lot of fun in the snow. The car seems to behave like a sports sedan and allows for a little drifting in the fresh powder snow. The company has not released any information about the engines or gearbox options that will be available for the new BMW X1.

BMW X1 compact SUV spied

A heavily camouflaged test mule lapping the Nurburgring has given us our first glimpse of BMW’s newest compact X1 SUV. Though likely destined for the urban jungle, the X1 will be a full time four-wheel drive, sharing many features of its not-so-mini MINI off-roader.

BMW X1 compact SUV -1BMW X1 compact SUV -2It boasts a relatively identical footprint to the current Toyota RAV4, although this is where the similarities end, especially in regards to the price tag.

The cabin will share a high degree of commonality with the 1-series, complete with the latest iDrive and BMW’s signature swan-necked gearlever.

Like all BMW’s, it will also use the Efficient Dynamics system which utilises stop-start and alternator control technologies to improve economy and lower emissions.

A hybrid version of the X1 is an almost certainty, likely to carry over from the system currently in development for the new 7-Series.
