Geneva 2008 - Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe

Rolls Royce is going to show the Phantom Coupè in Geneva. The third model in the Rolls lineup is a very close relative of the Drophead Coupè convertible, with the same 6.75-liter V12 engine (460 ps, 720 Nm) and similar suicide doors.

According to Rolls Royce, the Phantom Coupè is the most driver-oriented car in its line-up, with a very rigid chassis, which shouldn't compromise ride comfort. Production will start in the summer of 2008. Prices still undefined.

Rolls Royce Phantom CoupeRolls Royce Phantom Coupe-2The Phantom Coupé features rear-hinged coach doors which add considerably to the ease of access to the rear lounge seats as well as to the overall aesthetics. Crucially, they aid the overall stiffness of the body as the rear hinged doors allow for an uninterrupted A-pillar helping to make this the most torsionally rigid Rolls-Royce ever. A brushed steel finish of A-pillar and bonnet, as seen for the first time on 100EX, is also available for the Coupé.
At the rear is a spacious picnic boot. A split tail compartment that opens in two parts, gives easy access to 395 litres of space. The lower tailgate also provides a comfortable seating platform for two adults when lowered.

At the core of the Phantom Coupé is an advanced aluminium chassis, perhaps the single most significant component in delivering the marque’s legendary refinement. Lightweight and exceptionally strong, it impacts positively on ride comfort, handling and safety. Hand made, it requires over 130 meters of welding to create each body.

Mutec RR01 1100mm Phantom Limousine

The Rolls-Royce Phantom makes people stop what they're doing and wonder A.) what celebrity you are, B.) why you look so different in person than you do on television, and C.) what the hell you're doing at the local Dairy Queen. We got a taste of this last Summer. It's fun. If the standard Phantom is not enough of an attention-getter for you,

Mutec RR01 1100mm Phantom Limousine Mutec RR01 1100mm Phantom Limousine -2Mutec RR01 1100mm Phantom Limousine -3Mutec will take your car, add a divider behind the front seats, and stretch it an additional 1100mm (43 inches) to make it a proper limousine. This also makes it the approximate length of a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, but what do you care? You won't be driving anyway. You'll be in back with three friends (or celebrities, or world leaders, or captains of industry), enjoying the revamped, face-to-face 4-seat configuration while you sip bubbly, broker multimillion-dollar handshake deals and gossip about how Jay-Z's Maybach is so completely pedestrian.

2008 Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe

Since 2004, Rolls-Royce has been teasing the arrival of a new convertible under the guise of the concept 100EX. At the 2007 Detroit auto show in January, the teasing is no more - and the Phantom Drophead Coupé will arrive in production-ready form.

2008 Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead CoupeThe Drophead is a four-seat, two-door convertible version of the existing Phantom sedan. And it's a step out of the normal Rolls box for the British luxe brand, with softer exterior style and more modern lines. Like the Phantom sedan, it's built on an aluminum space frame. And underhood is the stock Rolls-Royce 6.75-liter, V-12 engine, which the brand says will launch the Drophead to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds.

Stunning details include the brushed steel hood and A-pillar from the 100EX concept shown in 2004, and the teak decking for the convertible top stow area. Trunk space is unaffected by the top storage, Rolls promises. The doors are rear-hinged, as the rear doors are on the Phantom.

Rolls says the Drophead will go into production in the summer of 2007. U.S. prices will start from $407,000.
